Prospective Athlete Advising
College Guidance for Prospective Student Athletes
The already long and complex process of applying to college is lengthened and, at times, more confusing and complicated for prospective college athletes. At Educational Advocates, our college counselors work with students and families to deepen their understanding of the college search process as it relates to athletic recruitment. We help students stay organized and invested in their college search by clearing up common areas of confusion and ensuring that students follow all NCAA guidelines for eligibility. We help parents and families alleviate the added stress associated with the athletic recruitment process and make this pertinent moment in a young adult’s life a positive and rewarding experience. In particular, we work with students to:
- Evaluate the level of collegiate athletics that is right for their skills and talents
- Develop an athletic resume and cover letter for college coaches
- Understand the importance and role of academic performance in the college recruitment process
- Create a plan for ongoing communication with college coaches
- Assist with the production of video (if appropriate) that can be posted to the internet for coaches to review
- Decipher the meanings of messages they receive from coaches to determine their levels of interest
- Evaluate scholarship and admission offers from athletic, academic, social and financial points of view
Student athletes with whom we have worked have competed at the following colleges:
